Conduct Workshop on Reviewing Students English Competency and Needs in Developing Digital Based-English
The establishment of ITM Study Program is to build digital based English environment in Campus. In accordance to this objective, under the coordination of PIC of Activity 3 S4P-ILO-Polimanado PMU, an activity in order to review students English competency and needs in developing digital based-English was carried out.
The result of the English score assessment caried out by the British Council on 1-14 June 2021 which was attended by 41 out of 50 students are as follows:
- Group test results indicate that this group likely consists of mostly Basic users. With 57% of the test-takers scoring A2 and 33% scoring B1, it is evident that additional training and exposure to English language is necessary to achieve a higher level of independent use. This could be achieved in a number of ways, from attending English language courses, to reading more widely in English (a proven method of improving all language skills, not just Reading itself), to seeking out more opportunities to use English on a daily basis. - Carry out initial assessment of English Score for Students and APTIS Test for teachers.
- Identify the actual competence in accordance with the test result.
- Convey the result of identification to the target resource persons (How to overcome the lack of English competence of the prospective students and teachers of ITM Study Program.
- Expose material through workshop.
Workshop Reviewing Students English Competency and Needs in Developing Digital Based-English held on September 8-9, 2021 at Grand Puri Hotel Manado.
Workshop participants consisted of core subjects teachers who are compilers of 13 core modules. Besides that there are participants from the tourism industry such as ASIDEWI, HPI, Travel Agents, Cruiseline, and Seasoldier. Also present were some teachers and students from Tourism Department. Workshop method was panel discussion, groups discussion, and result discussion presentation. Discussion guidance for 13 core modules which covers the topics on reading comprehensive, speaking fluency, listening and writing, and assessment.
